FOUNDERS OF THE VEGETARIAN BUTCHER PARTNERS WITH LOCAL TEA PRODUCER TEA BY ME
Jaap Korteweg and Niko Koffeman, the former founders of The Vegetarian Butcher, announced their investment in the Zundert-based company Tea by Me. The new partnership aims to accelerate the company’s (inter)national growth, expand its European tea plantations and local production facilities. The partners share a passion for nature and sustainable entrepreneurship. ‘We grow tea locally, which shortens the supply chain and ads to the freshness of the product. Our tea does not have to travel far but grows in our backyard, directly converting CO2 into oxygen.’ said Johan Jansen, founder of Tea by Me.
After eight years of research, Johan succeeded in developing the first tea plant which can survive in European climate. This has given the company the unique opportunity to produce fresh local tea. Since 2018, the company grows and processes its own Dutch tea under the brand Joan Local tea makers. Their tea gained worldwide recognition by winning the prestigious AVPA International Teas of the World Contest in Paris in the same year. This locally produced tea is available at different retailers, for example Plus, SPAR, Jumbo Foodmarket, Sligro and Makro. Tea by Me also sells tea plants at Intratuin, which enables people to grow their own tea at home.
